As you all aware Nowadays that Cybersecurity Challenges has been the national security, organizations ranging from small to large enterprises, government and private universities, all face cyber-attacks from across the globe. In our quest to deal with newly emerging threats, we often face challenges that one must deal with to secure their territory, and the following are some of these challenges explained in detail.

First, the cloud security vulnerabilities with the increasing move from local databases to cloud-hosted devices allow for more opportunities for hackers to take advantage of these misconfigurations. In fact, in 2019, 50% of the breaches were caused by misconfigured cloud instances.

Next on the list is the evolving Ransomware strategies that cost billions of dollars every year and the latest data shows that 22% of organizations cease to exist only in the last year. Add to that the rise in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin helped fuel these attacks and for criminals to cover their tracks.

This leads me to my next point which is compromised IoT devices, IoT stands for the internet of things which is a system of related devices the can transmit data over a network without the need of any intervention. In other words, if you accessed one of them you’ve accessed them all and this causes an increased risk of attacks, invasions, and gaps in security.

Moving to another challenge the Enhanced AI/ML attacks, these technologies may be used to perform different types of attacks from sending a vast amount of spam, fraud, links via chatbots to AI-powered password guessing to cryptographic attacks and I’d like to talk about a specific attack called DeepFake which is a video recording technology that cybercriminals use to spread chaos in various fields mainly politics, a good example to illustrate that is the Obama’s fake video which has millions of views on youtube.

The last challenge on the list is mobile cyber criminality. Believe it or not, your smartphone is the next frontier in cyber criminality because fake apps are growing and they are designed to steal your data from your phone. In addition, social engineering through SMS is known as smishing will continue to develop.

Other challenges that getting very common also such as BlockChain and Cryptocruenicies Attacks, Supply Chain Attacks, Data Regulation/Security laws, Rise of Zero-Day Threat, ERP implementation gaps, etc …

So much for talking about the problems, turning your attention now to how to build an efficient cybersecurity strategy, you need to :

  • Run a security audit on a regular basis.
  • Invest in security tools such as firewalls/antivirus and keep them up to date.
  • Use 2FA for all your accounts.
  • Apply encryption to all your confidential files.
  • Have a strong backup policy.
  • Hire more Cybersecurity experts and professionals to handle your strategy.

To sum up, there is no 100 per cent protection against cyber-attacks. However, you can reduce risks tremendously by constantly informing about new threats and questioning your security strategy.
